Sandals of Peace
SAN-dulz of PEES
proper noun (armor)
Greek hupodesamenoi tous podas en hetoimasia tou euangeliou tes eirenes (Eph 6:15), “having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” The fifth piece of the whole armor — the soldier's footwear, with hobnails for grip in combat.

📖 Biblical Definition

The Sandals of Peace are the fifth piece of the whole armor of God: "And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace" (Ephesians 6:15). Roman soldiers wore studded sandals (caligae) — hobnailed footwear that gave them traction in melee and let them stand firm on uneven ground. Paul’s metaphor is precise. The believer stands firm in battle on preparation (Greek hetoimasia, "readiness") that comes from the gospel of peace. The reconciled-to-God soul has solid footing under it; the unsaved soldier slips. Footwear also bears the messenger out: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace" (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15). Stand firm; carry the news.

Ephesians 6:15"Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace."

Romans 10:15"How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Modern Christianity stands well; few are shod for the next move.

Roman caligae were studded with iron hobnails; they gave the legionary grip in combat and miles of marching endurance. Paul's metaphor is precise: the believer's foot-grip is the readiness of the gospel of peace. Not the gospel itself in the abstract, but readiness to deliver it — tongue trained, soul prepared, the message rehearsed and warm.

Modern Christianity often stands well in its own circles and is unshod for the next move. The conversation at the coffee shop, the question from the neighbor, the unbeliever in your family at Christmas — the moment requires footwear. 1 Peter 3:15 says be ready always to give an answer. The sandals are part of the armor; the next step requires them. Lace up.
