Seven Seals
SEV-un SEELZ
proper noun
Greek hepta sphragides. The seven seals on the scroll in Revelation 5-8 that no one in heaven or earth was found worthy to open, until the Lamb who had been slain came forward to take it from the right hand of the Father and break the seals one by one.

📖 Biblical Definition

The seven seals on the scroll in Revelation 5-8 sealing God's end-times decrees. No creature in heaven or earth was found worthy to open them; John wept at the prospect; then the Lamb who had been slain stepped forward and took the scroll from the Father's right hand. The breaking of the seals releases the four horsemen (red, white, black, pale), the cry of martyrs, cosmic disturbance, and silence in heaven for half an hour preceding the seven trumpets.

📖 Key Scripture

Revelation 5:1"I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals."

Revelation 5:5"Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof."

Revelation 6:1"I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals."

Revelation 8:1"When he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Only the Lamb is worthy to open the seals; modern self-help theology cannot break a single one.

Revelation 5 is one of the most theologically dense chapters in Scripture. The Father holds a sealed scroll containing the consummation of history. No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy to open it. John weeps. Then an elder says: weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book. John turns to see a Lion and beholds a Lamb, slain. The Lamb is the Lion; the slaughtered is the worthy.

Modern Christianity often softens the worthiness clause. Self-improvement, religion, philosophy, and politics all promise to break the seals on history. None can. The seven seals belong to one Lamb who alone has been found worthy by the price He paid. The end of history is in His hand because the cross is in His hand. Trust the Lamb with the scroll. He is opening it on schedule.
