The seven trumpets sounded by seven angels in Revelation 8-11, following the silence of the seventh seal. Each trumpet releases an escalating divine judgment on a third of creation: hail and fire on a third of the earth (1); a burning mountain into a third of the sea (2); the star Wormwood on a third of the rivers (3); a third of the sun, moon, and stars darkened (4); locusts from the abyss (5); the army of two hundred million horsemen (6); and the seventh trumpet, which signals the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord.
TRUM'PET, n.
A wind instrument of music, used chiefly in war, and made of brass or other metal. Seven trumpets — in Revelation, seven angelic trumpets unleashing escalating judgments.
Revelation 8:2 — "I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets."
Revelation 8:6 — "The seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound."
Revelation 11:15 — "The seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:52 — "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump."
Modern Christianity treats the trumpets as ancient drama; the Lord still keeps a calendar.
The seventh trumpet of Revelation 11:15 is one of the loudest moments in Scripture: The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. Heaven erupts; the elders fall on their faces; God's long-delayed reign visibly arrives. Every empire that has ever rejected Christ's lordship is, at the seventh trumpet, finally and forever displaced.
Modern Christianity often treats Revelation 8-11 as ancient drama disconnected from reality. The Lord still keeps a calendar. Whether the trumpets are unfolding now in inaugurated form or are reserved for a future tribulation (interpreters differ), the seventh trumpet is a fixed event. Listen for it. Live now as if you can hear it tuning. The kingdoms are already becoming the Lord's; the announcement is just running ahead of the perception.
