White Knighting
wite NYE-ting
verb / participle
Gerund form of white knight — the act of reflexively defending a woman in a dispute regardless of merit. Established in manosphere and NXR discourse in the 2010s onward.

📖 Biblical Definition

White-knighting is the activity of the white knight — positioning oneself as the defender of a woman in a public dispute without first weighing the case, often against other men to whom one owes deeper covenantal or fraternal loyalty. White-knighting is not the same as the husband’s legitimate defense of his wife, the father’s protection of his daughter, or the church’s discipline of the man who has actually wronged the woman in his care. It is the unbidden public intervention — typically by men with no covenantal standing — driven by the felt need to appear chivalrous, win female approval, or vent unprocessed feeling. Scripture warns: "He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears" (Proverbs 26:17). The remedy is masculine restraint, deeper loyalty to the men of one’s own household, and refusing to be played.

📜 Webster 1828 Definition

The act of reflexively taking the woman's side in a public dispute regardless of merit; man-pleasing of the feminine kind.

WHITE KNIGHTING, v./part. (modern slang, c. 2010s–present) The behavior pattern of the white knight: jumping into a dispute to defend a woman, often against another man, before the facts are known and often regardless of the facts. Common in online comment threads, church-conflict dynamics, and feminist-aligned cultural commentary. Reformed and NXR critics (Kings Hall, Bnonn Tennant, Michael Foster) name it as a specifically male failure: it is the inverse of misogyny but not the opposite of it — both refuse to weigh a particular woman's actual case in light of God's law.

📖 Key Scripture

Proverbs 18:13"He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him."

John 7:24"Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."

1 Corinthians 4:5"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness."

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Public man-pleasing dressed as protection; partiality dressed as chivalry.

White-knighting is structurally identical to the man-pleasing Paul names in Galatians 1:10. The audience has changed — the white knight is not seeking applause from a male peer group; he is seeking applause from a female-coded audience (and frequently the woman herself). The motive is the same: I want the cost of being right to be paid by someone else. Christ's man does not get to outsource that cost. He has to weigh the matter, render the judgment in righteousness, and accept the social fallout of having done so honestly.

The fix is not contempt for women or refusal to defend the wronged. The fix is ordered chivalry: defend your wife and household with everything you have; speak truth in love to the women God has placed in your spiritual care; and when a dispute arises between a woman and a man, judge the case in righteousness regardless of how that ruling will land socially. That is not white-knighting. That is the work of an elder, a father, a brother in Christ.
