YHWH-Rapha (יְהוָה רֹפְאֶךָ) — "the LORD that healeth thee" — is the covenant self-revelation God gave Israel at Marah, after sweetening the bitter waters with a tree cast in: "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God... I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee" (Exodus 15:26). The Hebrew rapha covers physical healing, spiritual healing, and the binding-up of the broken-hearted. God is the comprehensive Healer: of Naaman’s leprosy (2 Kings 5), of David’s soul (Psalm 41:4; 147:3), of the nations’ wounds (Isaiah 53:5). All medicine, all comfort, all resurrection terminate in this name.
In KJV: healeth — God's healing is a sustained name, not an event.
The Hebrew imperfect in Exodus 15:26 — "I am the LORD that healeth thee" — is continuous-aspect. Healing is not an occasional act of God; it is His name, His character, His standing relationship to His people.
Psalm 103:3: "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Continuous forgiveness paired with continuous healing — the same divine character on both sides.
Some healing is now (medical, prayer-answered, miraculous), some healing waits (the resurrection body). YHWH-Rapha is real in both timeframes; the name does not collapse if a particular healing is delayed.
The LORD Who Heals — declared at Marah.
The compound covenant name God Himself pronounces at Marah after the bitter waters were sweetened: "I am the LORD that healeth thee." Hebrew rapha covers physical healing (disease cured), spiritual healing (sin's wound bound up), relational healing (covenant restored), and ultimate eschatological healing (the resurrection body). The Healer is one Healer working at every level.
Exodus 15:26 — "I am the LORD that healeth thee."
Psalm 147:3 — "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."
Isaiah 53:5 — "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Either commercialized by prosperity-healing (where the absence of physical healing is read as lack of faith) or dismissed as primitive superstition.
Word-of-faith teaching weaponizes YHWH-Rapha as a guarantee of physical healing on demand. Naturalist medicine dismisses the name as pre-scientific. Scripture sits between: God is the Healer; some healing is now, some waits; suffering is not always lack of faith.
Recover the four-tier healing: physical, spiritual, relational, eschatological. YHWH-Rapha is at work in all four. The resurrection body is the final stripe-by-stripe healing.
