The Word “Gospel”
The word “gospel” comes from the Greek euangelion (εὐαγγέλιον) — it means good news. Not just good news in a general sense, but the most important news ever announced in human history. It is the message that God has acted decisively in the person of Jesus Christ to rescue what was lost, redeem what was broken, and restore what was destroyed.
This page exists because everything else on this site — the Bible plan, the discipleship framework, the brotherhood — is downstream of this one thing. You can’t build the Kingdom without knowing the King. You can’t preach what you don’t believe. And you can’t believe what you’ve never heard.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.”
— Romans 1:16 (NKJV)What the Gospel IS
The Gospel is not a self-help program, a moral framework, or a system of religious rules. It is a historical announcement about something God has already done. Here is that story — from creation to cross to resurrection.
-
1God created man in His image.
In the beginning, God created humanity in His own image — distinct from all other creation, designed for relationship with Him, made to reflect His glory and exercise dominion over the earth in love.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
— Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) -
2Man fell into sin — and all of us with him.
Our first parents chose their own way over God’s. That choice fractured everything — the relationship between God and man, between man and man, between man and creation. And that brokenness is inherited. We don’t sin because we’re broken; we sin because we’re sinners.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
— Romans 3:23 (ESV) -
3The wages of sin is death.
Sin isn’t just a mistake — it carries a penalty. Physical death, spiritual separation from God, and ultimately eternal judgment. This is the honest reality that makes the good news so good.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 6:23 (NKJV) -
4God sent His Son.
Before the foundation of the world, God had a rescue plan. Not because we deserved it — but because love is who He is. He sent His only Son, fully God and fully man, into the world He created.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
— John 3:16 (NKJV) -
5Jesus lived, died, was buried, and rose again.
Jesus Christ lived a perfect, sinless life — the life none of us could live. He was crucified on a Roman cross, bearing the full weight of God’s wrath against sin as our substitute. He was buried. And on the third day, He rose bodily from the grave — defeating sin and death forever. This is the Gospel.
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 (NKJV) -
6Salvation is by grace through faith — not by works.
You cannot earn your way to God. No amount of good behavior, religion, service, or self-improvement closes the gap that sin created. Salvation is entirely a gift — received through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9 (NKJV) -
7Confess and believe — and you will be saved.
The response God calls for is not complicated. It is confession and belief — an inward conviction of the heart, expressed outwardly with the mouth. This is the doorway into the Kingdom.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
— Romans 10:9–10 (NKJV)
“The love of God is known often by the measure of a man’s mind.”— A.W. Tozer
What the Gospel DOES
The Gospel is not just a message you believe once and move on from. It is a living power that continues to work in and through those who receive it. The Gospel doesn’t just get you into heaven — it transforms the way you live here and now. It moves you from darkness to light, from bitterness to forgiveness, from isolation to brotherhood, from apathy to mission.
God rescues us from the dominion of darkness and transfers us into the Kingdom of His Son, in whom we have redemption through His blood — the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:13–14God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting our sins against us. We who were once enemies are now sons.
2 Corinthians 5:18–19If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. You must be born again — and the Gospel makes that possible.
2 Cor 5:17 · John 3:3The Gospel opens the eyes of the blind, turns men from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God — that they may receive forgiveness and an inheritance among the sanctified.
Acts 26:18 · Col 1:13Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind — proving what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2God knows the plans He has for you — plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. And all things work together for good for those who love Him.
Jer 29:11 · Rom 8:28They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Day by day they attended together, sharing meals and praising God.
Acts 2:42–47Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you — and you will be My witnesses to the ends of the earth.
Matt 28:19–20 · Acts 1:8The trajectory of the Gospel is always from darkness → light, from bitterness → forgiveness, from conviction → conversion. It doesn’t leave a man where it finds him. That is its nature. That is its power.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
✝ Your Response
If you’ve never responded to the Gospel, today can be that day. There’s no formula, no magic prayer — but there is a turning. A turning from self to God, from sin to the Savior. It’s called repentance and faith. And it starts with a simple, honest prayer like this:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sin and I place my trust in You. Come into my life. Be my Lord and my Savior. I receive Your gift of eternal life. Amen.”
If that prayer reflects the genuine cry of your heart, we want to hear from you. You are not alone in this. USMC Ministries exists to walk alongside men as they grow in their faith — one relationship at a time.
“The safest place to be, in light of eternity, is the center of God’s will.”
