Definition

From peri (around) and kukloō (to circle). To encircle completely, to surround on every side. Jesus prophesied that enemies would surround Jerusalem.

Usage & Theological Significance

Jesus wept over Jerusalem and prophesied: 'Your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side' (Luke 19:43). This was fulfilled in AD 70 when Roman armies surrounded Jerusalem. Rejected grace leads to judgment.
