marom
Noun, masculine
height, elevation, exalted place, the heights

Definition

Marom (H4791) describes elevated places β€” mountain heights, the heights of heaven, the exalted position of God. It is used for God's dwelling place above all creation, and for the pride of those who exalt themselves in rebellion. The contrast between God's holy marom and human arrogance is a recurring prophetic theme.

Usage & Theological Significance

Isaiah 57:15 is the most stunning theological use: God says He lives in a high and holy place [marom], but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit. God's transcendence and immanence meet at marom. He dwells in the highest heights and yet stoops to the lowest valleys of human brokenness.
