Mighty God
MY-tee GOD
proper noun (Christ-title)
Hebrew El Gibbor (Isa 9:6 / Isa 10:21). One of the four throne-names Isaiah gives the Messianic Child — an unambiguous declaration of His full deity.

📖 Biblical Definition

"Mighty God" — Hebrew El Gibbor — is one of the great Messianic names of Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given... and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." The same name is used of God Himself just two chapters later: "the remnant shall return... unto the mighty God" (Isaiah 10:21; cf. Jeremiah 32:18). Isaiah is unambiguous: the Messiah is not a powerful man or even a high angel — He is El Gibbor, God Himself in warrior strength, born to fight the dragon and rescue the bride. The deity of Christ is anchored in the Old Testament, not invented by the New.

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Modal Christianities try to turn Christ into less than God; Isaiah ruled it out before He was born.

The four throne-names of Isaiah 9:6 are not poetic adjectives; they are deity claims. Wonderful Counselor — God's wisdom incarnate. Mighty God — not a mighty god but the Mighty God, the same El Gibbor used of Yahweh in chapter 10. Everlasting Father — eternal sourcing, not subordinate origin. Prince of Peace — throne authority. Together: the Messiah is God Himself walking in human form.

Every reduced Christology the centuries have produced — Arianism, modern Watchtower theology, Mormonism, Unitarian-progressivism — has had to wave a hand at Isaiah 9:6 to get past it. The hand never quite obscures the verse. Christ is the Mighty God. Worship Him as such, or do not worship Him at all.
