Adoration
/ˌa-də-ˈrā-shən/
noun
From Latin adoratio, from adorare — to worship, pray to; ad- (to) + orare (to pray, speak); related to os/oris (mouth)

📖 Biblical Definition

The highest form of worship — the total orientation of mind, heart, soul, and body toward God in reverent love, awe, and praise. Adoration is not merely sentimental affection; it is the creature's proper response to the Creator's infinite worth and holiness. It involves prostration of spirit before God's majesty, delight in His character, and the complete offering of oneself. True adoration is directed to God alone and flows from a transformed heart that has seen the glory of Christ.

📜 Webster 1828 Definition

ADORA'TION, n. [L. adoratio.] The act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; the act of addressing as God with reverence and humility; worship paid to a divine being. In an inferior sense, homage paid to one in high esteem. Divine worship consists in adoration or an acknowledgment of the divine perfections.

⚠️ Modern Corruption

Adoration has been diluted into a synonym for celebrity fan culture — people "adore" pop stars, athletes, or romantic partners with the same language once reserved for God alone. In shallow worship culture, "adoration" has become an emotional experience chased for its own sake rather than a Christ-centered response to revealed truth. When the creature is adored in place of the Creator, adoration becomes idolatry (Romans 1:25).
